We previously wrote a review of Comcast for iPad. Comcast for iPad, also known as Xfinity TV, has been available since February but only for iPad.
Starting today, you can now download Xfinity TV for iPhone and iPod touch. This app is still WiFi only (no using cellphone data networks) but unlike Time Warner and Cablevision apps you can watch streaming On Demand video anywhere, not just in your home.
Comcast has also expanded their lineup to include 25 On Demand Channels/Networks for over 6,000 hours of video.
For those already using the Comcast for iPad app, Comcast recommends uninstalling the old app before installing the new version of the app as there have been some problems upgrading the iPad version from the older version. This shouldn’t be a big deal because the app is free for all Comcast subscribers.
For those who haven’t tried this app already, and have no desire for streaming TV on their phone, keep in mind this is still a great app for channel changing and a way to manage your home DVR on the go.

With On Demand TV and Online TV posed to eventually eat into TiVo sales, TiVo is poised to open up more services on their TiVo Premiere.
Netflix, Amazon On Demand and Blockbuster are all available on TiVo, but TiVo is poised to go even further. Yes that’s right, control and Watch TiVo on your iPad! This is not yet available but will be very soon. Some minor hackers found reference to it in their TiVo’s XML feed. This TiVo XML feed is basically a computer database containing “StreamingPermission”. Streaming Permission is exactly what and iPad would need to be setup for in able to get access to your TiVo.
Subscribe to our TV news feed and you will be sure to be notified when it actually comes to be!

If you get HBO and one of the following (AT&T U-verse, Cox Cable, Comcast, DirecTV, DISH Network, Suddenlink or Verizon FiOS) you can watch HBO on your home computer, iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.
Sorry Time Warner and Cablevision subscribers, you aren’t getting all that you pay for.
For those lucky enough to be in the right service area, you can signup at HBOGo pretty easily. From there you enter a password for your account and BOOM. All HBO all the time. This is a great thing and we will let the video do the talking for us. (Remember, TrueBlood returns the last Sunday in June)

Unlike DishTV for iPad, DirecTV for iPad does not let you watch TV on your iPad (or iPhone or iPod)
What you do get is one of the slickest remote controls around. Schedule your DVR, switch between your favorite channels and even get live sports scores. This goes PERFECT with NFL Sunday Ticket - DIRECTV, Inc.' target=_blank>NFL Sunday Ticket!
The reason why DirecTV has not come out with TV on iPad yet is because they like things to be more fully baked than the other TV providers. They don’t want you to have a sour taste in your mouth so they are testing and waiting for things to be more ironed out before giving you all of your TV goodness!

Note: We have skipped over Time Warner for iPad and Cablevision for iPad because we reviewed them previously.

We are shocked that the iPad/iPhone/iPod app that is tied for first place is FiOS for iPad. Verizon FiOS Mobile is basically an extremely glorified remote control for your FiOS. Don’t get us wrong, this may the coolest remote control but it is not Online TV or Mobile TV. It must be really cool because it got 4 out of 5 stars in the iTunes app store.
The super imposed remote control, visually stunning TV Listings and the ability to search really do make your TV viewing experience great. However, we want FiOS TV on iPad. We feel a bit jaded that Verizon was showing off TV on the iPad back in August of 2010 and still they haven’t done anything with it.
Verizon CIO even admitted to the Wall Street Journal "Technologically, there's no difference between [the app] and the set-top box." If there’s no difference, than flip the switch and give us our TV on iPad!
Nonetheless, this is a pretty cool app and you can also control your DVR. Links to download it are below.

AT&T’s iPad TV app, “U-verse” This is one of the rare apps that doesn’t work the same for iPhone and iPad. Both can iPad and iPhone can act as a DVR and programming guide. Neither apps can remote control TV Playback.
Only the iPhone app can download “Pre-selected” TV shows from a pre-arranged mobile library but can may do so only via Wi-Fi.
The iTunes store gives the AT&T app 3 out of 5 stars. We aren’t sure how this is possible as TV is missing for all but the iPhone. We are sure once contracts are renegotiated that AT&T will finally release more content and channels. Until then, their app for iPad is nothing more than a fancy TV guide.

Comcast for iPad and Android (also known as XFinity TV") is a bit different than the rest of the other Cable and Dish TV apps. It has the TV Listings like many of the other TV apps and also let’s you control your DVR and work as a giant remote control. Unlike some others that show selected channels, live TV or streaming shows from your DVR, Cable/Satellite Box, it streams only from On Demand.
On Demand is not a bad choice in a market that is still trying to work out a working business model. On Demand does include access to Premium On Demand such as HBO, Showtime and Starz.
Other than no live channels yet, the only drawback is that the Comcast TV app only works on WiFi for iPad. Android users do not have the same drawback. We believe AT&T might be flexing its muscle to prohibit such things over its network and other companies like Verizon just get caught up in the same rule.
With 3.5 out of 5 stars this is a pretty decent app that will only get better with time.

Dish Network has the MOST potential but iPad/iPod/iPhone reviewers have given the app a meager 2 and a half stars out of 5.
Dish describes the app as…
Take your TV with you. With the DISH Remote Access app, you can watch the same TV you get at home on your iPhone or iPod touch. Enjoy your favorite live or recorded programs anytime, anywhere. Also, manage your home television with a full-featured DVR manager, a searchable program guide, and a virtual remote control. This is a must-have app for DISH Subscribers.
The only catch is that you need a Slingloaded DVR. For the average reader, that is just a specific type of DVR. Unlike Cable, you don’t have to watch this app from you home, you can watch it anywhere in the world.
Even without the Slingloaded DVR you can still remote control your TV, view TV Listings and manage your DVR. If you ever dreamed of having the best remote control in the world, get Dish TV from Dish Network and keep your iPhone, iPad, iPod or even Android device by your couch to manage everything you need.
We can only assume that setting this up may be too technical for some users and that early releases of the software were not quite ready. If you have Dish Network, you need Dish Network on iPad!

Almost just as disappointing as Cox Cable iPad App is the Tivo iPad app.
Just like the Cox app, the Tivo App does not allow streaming TV from your Tivo to your iPad. Instead the Tivo for iPad/iPod/iPhone only allows you to schedule and review your recording on your TiVO.
Don’t get us wrong, it seems to do this extremely well but it doesn’t give you what you really are looking for, DVR Play Back on your iPad (or other iTunes capable device).
Tivo seems to be showing a lot more interest in bringing your DVR’ed shows to your iPad though. They are currently testing out Hulu on TiVo and will likely be testing out Streaming TiVo to iPad, iPod, iPhone and Android soon!
