3000 Movies on Google TV, Android and YouTube

Google Now Offer Movie Rental On Android Phones & TabletsAndroid and Google TV are one.  (Android runs on all Google TV devices).

Google has gotten their act together and released 3,000 NEW movies for rent in the Android store and on YouTube.  This also means that the movies are available for rent on Google TV.

The movies are available at https://market.android.com/movies

These movies aren’t just a couple old movies that nobody watches.  They include features like Inception, the newest Harry Potter, The Kings Speech, The Tourist and 2,996 others!

Even better, the movies are only $3.99.  This is cheaper than most “On Demand” movies that charge $1 more.

While this isn’t exactly live Online TV, it is one step closer to the Shangri-La of only paying for the channels and shows that you want to watch.

DVRs are great, but with everything starting to become available to Instant Streaming their days are numbered just like the VCR that they replaced.

Netflix on Android

Netflix for Android Phone

Netflix is a great addition to any Android phone.  Currently it is available for the Evo 4G, G2, HTC Incredible, Nexus One and the Samsung Nexus S.  It isn’t available for all Androids phones for 1 simple reason.  All Android Phones are different.  Different screen resolution, different Operating System versions and different hardware.  Unlike Apple who’s iPhone division comes out with 1 version of hardware a year (at most) there are dozens of different Android phones released every year with their own benefits and their own problems.

If you are one of the people with one of these 5 Android phones, you are going to be SO happy with Netflix.  Not only can you manage your DVD and Blu-Ray queues, you can watch streaming movies over WiFi or your normal cell phone service (if your cell phone company lets you).  Furthermore if you get part way through a movie and want to finish watching it at home, just stop watching and it will continue on your Netflix player at home or on your computer.

Netflix…. one more reason to stop paying $100 per month for cable TV.

What is MDTV?

by Dish TV 11. April 2011 09:50

MDTV Logo“MDTV” stands for Mobile Digital Television.

MDTV is a new broadcast standard/service for delivering television signals to cell phones and other digital equipment (think iPods and such) that have an MDTV label.

MDTV is different than normal Digital TV because it was designed to be used when moving.  Regular digital TV loses a lot when you start moving faster than 5 miles per hour.  So you can see why MDTV is better for buses, cars and trains.

In February or 2011 the first cities to get MDTV were Boston, Providence, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Norfolk, Roanoke, Charlotte, Greenville, Atlanta, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Mobile, Topeka, Wichita, Omaha, Lincoln, Denver, Seattle and San Francisco.

By the end of 2011, 40% of the United States should have access to some form of MDTV.

Below is a video of an in dash MTV player. Dish Check suggest not watching TV while driving!!!

Twitter TV

by Dish TV 11. April 2011 09:37

This may seem like an April Fool’s Joke but is actually real life.

LG has created an Android phone that not only get’s TV reception, it looks for relevant Twitter Tweets and displays them on screen.

The older generation might be asking themselves “What the heck would I want Tweets interrupting my shows for?”.

Ironically the younger generation is probably asking themselves “What is up with the big gaudy antenna"?”.

LG wants 40% of America to be able to use phones like this to watch MDTV by the end of this year.
