Slingbox and Google TV

by Dish TV 1. June 2011 10:00

Kind of a boring video so if you don’t want to watch it, it basically says…

A SlingBox is the device that connects to your home TV/Cable/Satellite/FiOS/etc… and sends the TV channels wherever you want them (ie. Laptop, Cellphone, Tablet, etc…)

SlingPlayer, the software that lets you use your laptop, phone, etc… to view the TV Channels.

Soon you will be able to watch your SlingBox on your Google TV.  For many, this will be a better way than running cable lines all of the house.  Simply have 1 Cable, Dish or FiOS receiver, 1 SlingBox and have multiple Google TVs.  This way you don’t need to pay “Rent” on multiple Tuners and Remote controls.  Also let’s be honest, most of the time the TV installers leave your place a mess with cables running through your house looking extra ugly and out of place.

Get a Google TV with SlingBox and you could even put your Tuner in a closet saving you one more cable in every room with a TV.

Happy Birthday Google TV

by Dish TV 16. May 2011 09:50

Google TV Birthday

Google TV came out about a year ago.  A lot of people got excited and waited for the next step.  These Google TV followers waited days, weeks, months now finally a year.  It seemed like Google TV might have gone the way of Web TV.

Then at Google IO, Google announced that Google TV was going to be getting the 3.1 update of Android, Apps and Android Movie Rentals.  But why the wait?  Did it take Google this long to get the movie licenses?  Is Android growing too fast and too diverse?

If Google is serious about Google TV, don’t be surprised if Google makes a big purchase in the coming year.  Vudu is the company that many have eyes on right now so that seems like the likely takeover choice for many.

3000 Movies on Google TV, Android and YouTube

by Dish TV 14. May 2011 09:27

Google Now Offer Movie Rental On Android Phones & TabletsAndroid and Google TV are one.  (Android runs on all Google TV devices).

Google has gotten their act together and released 3,000 NEW movies for rent in the Android store and on YouTube.  This also means that the movies are available for rent on Google TV.

The movies are available at https://market.android.com/movies

These movies aren’t just a couple old movies that nobody watches.  They include features like Inception, the newest Harry Potter, The Kings Speech, The Tourist and 2,996 others!

Even better, the movies are only $3.99.  This is cheaper than most “On Demand” movies that charge $1 more.

While this isn’t exactly live Online TV, it is one step closer to the Shangri-La of only paying for the channels and shows that you want to watch.

DVRs are great, but with everything starting to become available to Instant Streaming their days are numbered just like the VCR that they replaced.

Google TV

by Dish TV 6. May 2011 08:53

It has been nearly a year before Google announced Google TV.  At first the masses where waiting with baited breath.  After a while it appeared that Google TV wouldn’t be the death of cable companies.

…but it is a start.

A Google TV is really an Android Device and special remote control.  The device plugs into your TV and you watch shows and such from the internet.  Google TV brings your shows together in a way to view them more easily.

This is only a start on the long path of pushing out cable companies.  However, with this device you can watch many of the shows you want with JUST internet.  It’s not an end all be all of Online TV but the market is still so young, no company has been able to work out a business model yet (although companies like Vuduare pretty darn close).
