Someday soon the choice between Satellite TV and Cable might switch to a batlle of Satellite TV vs Fiber. Verizon is beginning to market FiOS TV very aggressively. This means lower tv channel prices and more HD channels than local cable companies. Customers will be looking for the best deals if the ecomomy get's tough(er). Verizon has made FiOS TV the better bargain in terms of price. Verizon now offers more than 100 HD channels on FiOS TV in the region.
How does this affect Dish TV (Dish Network, Direct TV). One word. "Competition". Competition is good for your Dish TV prices and good for the amount of channels that you receive.
Verizon FiOS, like Dish TV, usually has 50 or more HD channels than local companies like Cox and Time Warner.
In some markets new FiOS customers who sign up before the end of the year will also receive Cinemax, HBO and FiOS TV's Movie Package, 9,000+ free video-on-demand (VOD) titles per month for FREE for 90 days.
Verizon's FiOS "
all fiber" network is superior to old cable's "
all copper" networks. Cable has been sitting still too long and now has a big black eye. For example, FiOS customers in Rhode Island can get the HD content with Verizon's
FiOS TV Extreme HD service for $57.99 a month, or in a three-service bundle for $109.99. Or customers can chose FiOS TV Essentials HD service, which includes all local HD channels, for $47.99 a month or in a three-service bundle for $99.99. For more information,

FiOS does take longer to install than Cable or Satellite and requires a rather large metal box to be installed in ones basement. Also, unlike cable, you need to sign a year long contract.
